  • Reviewing drawings and specifications to decide on the right materials, methods, and order of operations, as well as machine settings.
  • Fitting metal parts together and assembling them to create machines and equipment.
  • Using precise measuring tools to check fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, clearance, and fit.
  • Adjusting guides, stops, and controls on machining tools, and setting up cutting and shaping tools and dies on machines and presses.
  • Shaping metal stock and castings to precise tolerances using various machining tools such as presses, cutters, grinders, planers, borers, and drills.
  • Identifying problems and performing maintenance on machines, as well as repairing mechanical parts and fluid power equipment.
